By Nicola Stefan Koch Refugee Stories is a project conceptualized and completed in close cooperation between students from ASAP and two young Afghan refugees, with the support of the Refugee Project Maastricht. Together they want to address the increasing uncertainty people in Europe, and especially in the Netherlands, feel with regard to the refugee situation, which is also manifested in the rise of some far-right groups. They are convinced that general resentment felt towards refugees is a threat to social stability, and that such ill-feelings are mostly based on oversimplified perceptions or prejudices. To promote social sustainability, they seek to dismantle these prejudices and to bridge the distance between Dutch citizens and refugees living in the Netherlands. To do so, they gathered questions about refugees raised by anxious citizens, many of whom have little or no contact with refugees, in order to let refugees themselves clarify these questions. The aim of ASAP in this project was to enable engaged people from civil society to realize their visions for social sustainability and therefore the two young directors from Afghanistan deserve special credits. Finally, it must be said, that without the extensive and skilled work from the students from the Movie Team Maastricht this project would never have been achieved.
